What is CanadaGAP?
CanadaGAP is a food safety standard for fresh fruits and vegetable suppliers. Certification demonstrates to customers that a company has met food safety standards which are
- HACCP based
- Government recognized
- GFSI recognized

Where do I start?
The first step is obtaining the CanadaGAP manual and forms based on your operation:
- Greenhouse Version for greenhouse production, packing and storage of fresh produce
- Fruit and Vegetables Version for production, packing and/or storage of field/orchard/vineyard grown fresh produce
Provision supplies the recent manual and forms within our software, updated as new versions are published. As you work through the manual, implement the applicable requirements into your operation and begin record keeping.

There are several certification options available to you depending on your operation:
Option A1 - Individual Supplier
- Not GFSI Recognized
- 4 year fixed audit cycle
Option A2 - Individual Supplier
- Not GFSI Recognized
- 4 year variable audit cycle
Option B - Group Certification
- GFSI Recognized
- Annual audits of Group Management System and sampling audits of individuals
Option C - Individual Supplier
- GFSI Recognized
- Annual audits
Option D - Repacking, Wholesale and Brokerage
- GFSI Recognized
- Annual audits
What is involved in an audit?
Once you have implemented the requirements in the manual, you are able to cross reference your work. The following links include the Self Assessment Checklist and the Audit Checklist itself, which lays out the expectations and audit elements you will be assessed for on audit day, as well as the audit brochure that covers the basics.
