⚠️ How to Add Deviation Rules to a Field

Trigger a deviation when a field is filled out outside of specification

You can add deviation rules to almost any field. When a user enters a value that breaks a rule, the form triggers a deviation.

  1. On the Form Builder tab, hover over the field and click the hazard icon to open the deviation rules for that field.
  2. Add a rule based on the field type:
    • Number fields: Add a numeric rule. For example, set greater than 10 to trigger a minor deviation, and less than or equal to 3 to trigger a major deviation.
    • Radio buttons: Add a string rule. Select equals, then choose which value triggers a minor or major deviation.
    • Multiple checkboxes: Specify, for each check, whether being checked or unchecked is the negative result.
    • Surveys: Specify the acceptable answer and the deviant answer for each question. You can set a different severity for each question.
    • Text fields: Add a rule for a specific value you do not want to appear in the field.
  3. Set the severity of each rule to minor or major as needed. You can add more than one rule to the same field.

Note: Not all checks have to be the same severity — surveys, for example, let you change the severity from question to question.

Once saved, the form will trigger the deviation you defined whenever a user enters a value that is out of specification.
