đź“‹ Form Field Types Explained
Understand the common field types you can add to a form
Drag any of these fields from the component list into a section, then click the gear icon to configure it. Every field shares the Label, Description, and Tooltip settings on the Display tab.
Text fields
- Single Line Text: A basic open-entry field for a single line of text.
- Multi Line Text: The same as single line text, but it allows multiple lines. On the Display tab you can set the number of Rows, or check the auto-expand option so the field grows as the user types.
Number
A field that only accepts numbers, decimals, and integers. Letters and most other characters cannot be typed. - Prefix: Add a symbol before the value, such as a dollar sign for currency. - Suffix: Add a unit after the value, such as “lbs” for mass.
Checkboxes
- Single Checkbox: A single check for a simple yes/no action, such as a “Production Not Applicable” check for negative reporting.
- Multiple Checkboxes: Lets the user select one or more options. Go to the Data tab to enter the values and labels for each check. The user can select as many or as few as they want.
Radio Buttons
Presents a set of options where only one can be selected at a time. Go to the Data tab to enter your values. Selecting a new value automatically clears the previous one.
Date / Time
Captures a date and a time. By default, the field auto-fills with the current date and current time. - To show only one, go to the Date tab or Time tab and uncheck the enabled input checkbox for the part you want to hide. - To stop the field from auto-filling, go to the Data tab, find the Default Date section, and remove the moment operator. The user then fills the field in manually.
Signatures
- Signature: The user signs on the spot in the signature field on the form.
- One-Click Signature: Links to the user’s account and uses the signature on their profile to sign with a single click.
Note: By default this auto-fills with the time the form was signed. To hide it, check the Hide Timestamp checkbox on the Display tab.
Image Upload
Lets the user add images inline as they work through the form, directly from their computer or device, rather than going to the Attachments tab. You can mark it as Required so an image must be uploaded before the user can proceed.
Survey
Best for inspections. Go to the Data tab to enter your questions and values. The questions serve as the rows, and the values serve as the answer columns. The user selects one answer per row.
Note: Like radio buttons, selecting one option in a row clears the other option in that row.
Resource Dropdown
Pulls automatically from a resource list in the product, such as products, companies, suppliers, or equipment. No setup of values is needed. - Placeholder: On the Display tab, add placeholder text such as “Select one” to guide the user. - To let the user pick more than one item, go to the Data tab and enable Allow Multiple Values. Uncheck it to allow a single value only.
Custom Dropdown
Works like a resource dropdown but pulls from a list you define rather than from resources. Go to the Data tab to enter your own values. Use this for options specific to one form. You can choose to allow a single value or multiple values.
Each field type can be added, renamed, and configured to fit the data you need to collect.
